Punjab Inspector General of Police Inam Ghani said that the role of riverine check-posts is of great important in protecting the life and property of citizens, especially during the ongoing monsoon season.
“The RPOs and DPOs of South Punjab districts where riverine areas are situated should pay special attention to the performance, provision of resources, monitoring and inspection of riverine check-posts to deal with any emergency in a professional manner.”
Punjab IG Police expressed these views while giving instructions to the officers while presiding over a meeting on professional matters of monsoon season and riverine check-posts at Central Police Office here on Thursday.
The IG Police said that faulty batteries of boats of riverine check-posts should be replaced and made functional within two days while the CCTV cameras there should be made operational by August 14 by the DPOs.
He further said that in case of high tides or flood in the riverine areas during monsoon, the personnel posted at the riverine check-posts should take full part in the relief activities with the administration.
Inam Ghani said that if additional resources or facilities are required at the riverine check-posts, they should be given priority.
He directed the DIG PHP to ensure that the staff and resources of the riverine outposts are not utilized elsewhere and that no personnel be deployed at the riverine outposts who have not done riverine course or don’t know swimming.
The IG Police further said that for the eradication of criminal elements, the staff of riverine check-posts should maintain close coordination with the district police and PHP so that the process of bringing criminal elements to justice could be expedited.
During the meeting, PHP DIG Dr Abid Khan briefed the IGP about all the riverine check-posts in the province and said that as per devised SOPs, staff posted over there are monitoring and patrolling the riverine check-posts in Mianwali, Layyah, Muzaffargarh, DG Khan and other districts.
Additional IG Logistics and Procurement Shahid Hanif, Additional IG PHP Muhammad Akram Naeem Bharoka, Additional IG Training Kanwar Shahrukh and other officers concerned attended the meeting.
