ISLAMABAD – The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced a new policy that can affect students studying in affiliated colleges and universities.
The country’s top education regulator’s Executive Director Zia Ul-Qayyum shared a notification, announcing more stern affiliation policy for public and privately run colleges associated with universities and other institutions across Pakistan.
In its Affiliation Policy 2024, HEC clarified that no varsity or any institution can link with government or private colleges without getting a no-objection certificate (NOC) from the Commission.
It also mentioned that the already affiliated colleges and institutes will be subjected to desk reviews by the regulator in order to maintain affiliation. With the stringent rule in place, HEC directed universities to input all required information for their existing affiliated colleges on its official portal.
It cautioned that disciplinary action will be taken against colleges and universities violating affiliation policies. The non-compliance can cause non-attestation of degrees by the Commission, it said.
With the revised policy, colleges and universities are not allowed to affiliate new programmes until such programmes have been running at the university for at least five years.
