Health, safety audit of Thar Coal Power project approved: Minister

Sindh Minister for Energy Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh has said that Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has approval for the health and safety audit of Thar Coal Power Project.

Sheikh said in the light of some incidents related to health and safety in Sindh, the provincial government has decided to ensure management of health and safety requirements in a state-of-the-art manner.

In this regard Thar Coal Block-1, Block-2 and the health and safety arrangements of companies operating in all other blocks should be verified after conducting a survey with an ISO certified firm.He made the remarks during a meeting with Energy Department officials at his office.

Imtiaz Sheikh said that this decision of the Sindh government would enable the Thar Coal Power Project to be in line with the latest requirements and any shortcomings or weaknesses identified during the Health and Safety Survey would be rectified.

The energy minister said that Sindh government wants to highlight Thar Coal Power Project as a state-of-the-art power project in accordance with international requirements and no negligence will be tolerated in this regard.
