Fakhre-Pakistan Arshad Nadeem arrived in Pakistan on early Sunday to hero’s welcome after winning country’s first ever gold medal at Paris Olympics.
Nadeem, who made history, was greeted by government officials, excited fans, and family members who welcomed him with drumbeats, and patriotic chants. His flight was honored with a water cannon salute upon landing.
Federal Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Prime Minister Youth Program Chairman Rana Mashhood, Minister of State for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima, and Khawaja Saad Rafique were among the officials present at the airport to receive him.
Arshad Nadeem’s Heroic Welcome
Speaking with media, Arshad Nadeem thanked everyone for the love and steadfast support and highlighted the crucial role his coach played in his historic achievement.
The star javelin thrower also extended thanks to his doctor, Ali Sher Bajwa, the Pakistan and Punjab sports boards, and Akram Sahi, the former Athletics Federation of Pakistan president.
Sharing his journey, Arshad said elbow injury at Tokyo Olympics hampered his potential, and further mentioned long recovery.
He was touched by the continued support from fans and the nation, crediting his doctor’s efforts in overcoming his fitness challenges and his coach’s guidance as key factors in his success.
Nadeem now mentioned participating in the Diamond League, with support from the federation, was instrumental in boosting his morale and preparing him for the Paris Olympics.
Lahore airport was alive with excitement as a large crowd, including Nadeem’s family, relatives, and key figures from the sports community, such as his former coach Fayyaz Bukhari and fellow javelin thrower Yasir Ali, gathered to celebrate his return.
