President Pakistan People’s Party Karachi and Sindh Labour and Human Resources Minister, Saeed Ghani, has appealed to Chief Minister, Syed Murad Ali Khan, to hold the local government elections in Karachi Division on January 15, 2023, as per the announcement of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

In a statement issued on Friday, Ghani, said that deferment of the local government elections multiple times had caused serious disappointment among the activists of the People’s Party and citizens of Karachi.

He said the concerned citizens of Karachi would once again be seriously dejected if the local government elections were not held on January 15 as per the announcement of the ECP.

He appealed to the Sindh CM that the Sindh government shouldn’t send anymore any sort of letter to the ECP for deferring again the local government polls.

He said the PPP and Muttahida Quami Movement had developed a consensus of opinion on a number of issues in line with the accord signed between the two political parties to empower the local government system in the province. So there is no valid reason to delay any further the local government polls.

Ghani emphasised that the People’s Party from day one was ready to contest the local government elections but the same couldn’t be held due to heavy rains and floods and the resultant disastrous situation in the province.

He said that circumstances, which led to the deferment of the local government elections in Karachi multiple times didn’t exist anymore so the polls should be held as per the announced date of January 15.—NNI
