INDIA is increasingly becoming a dangerous place for minorities especially the Muslims that have been braving all sorts of discrimination and violent acts under the present extremist regime of Narendra Modi.
This in fact is not rhetoric or hyperbole but the very acts of Indian government and extremist Hindus have widely been reported and now several international organisations are also coming up with their assessments, warning of threats faced by Muslims in the so-called secular state.
The founder of Genocide Watch, Dr Gregory Stanton, who had predicted genocide in Rwanda years before it took place in 1994, has now warned of an impending genocide of Muslims in India, comparing situation of the country under the Narendra Modi government to events in Myanmar and Rwanda.
Addressing an event via video, he rightly alluded to a recent gathering of saffron robed Hindu monks at the north Indian Hardiwar city where a call was made for genocide of Muslims.
The silence of Modi on the genocide call is not surprising as the butcher of Gujarat even after becoming the PM never refrains from attacking the Muslims, in his speeches.
Encouraged by the state, extremism and hatred against Muslims is permeating in Indian society.
At the outset of this year, photographs of more than one hundred Muslim women appeared on an app called Bulli Bai, with the claim that they were for sale as maids.
Prominent journalists, actresses and activists were amongst those who were targeted. The threat of Muslim genocide in India is real.
It is time for the international community to act fast and rein in Modi before it is too late and blood of more Indian Muslims flows in the streets.
Modi and his associates should be held accountable for their crimes against humanity. Greater responsibility also rests with the OIC to speak for their Indian Muslim brothers and sisters.
As the meeting of OIC Council of Foreign Ministers is due in Islamabad in March, it should send a loud and clear message to the Indian government to ensure security of Muslims.
If the Indian government does not pay heed, the Muslim countries whilst rising above their interests should jointly cut off trade and economic relations with New Delhi.
