G-7’s provocative posture

THE Group of Seven (G7) on Sunday said time was running out for Iran to agree a deal to curb its nuclear ambitions and warned Russia of ‘massive’ consequences if it invaded Ukraine.

During their two-day meeting in England, Foreign Ministers of the member states also focused on anti-China policies.

The G-7, an informal grouping of seven advanced democracies, was formed mainly to coordinate global economic policy but with the passage of time and especially in the given international situation, it is adopting a provocative political approach towards other influential countries, fuelling cold war that countries like China sincerely want to avoid.

It seems that the United States is exploiting all available opportunities to counter China both economically and militarily and a propaganda campaign has been unleashed to malign the country on issues like human rights and South China Sea.

More naked are the threats being hurled on Tehran despite the fact that it was not Iran that backed out from the nuclear accord but the United States.

It was because of the tacit support of countries like members of G-7 that Israel is threatening to physically attack Iran and has ordered its forces to prepare a plan for the aggression.

Provocative posture has also been adopted against the Russian Federation over the Ukraine issue, which amounts to complicating it further for vested interests.

It is because of all this that analysts believe some countries of the West are deliberately stoking tension in different parts of the globe to create avenues to support their military sales in the backdrop of recession caused by Covid-19.
