ISLAMABAD – The slow speed internet has massively affected the online business in Pakistan as number of projects given to the freelancers dropped significantly.
Reports said around 70 percent decline was recorded in the online work received by the freelancers due to internet issues.
The internet speed is also dead slow today, December 9, while there is no official statement from the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA).
The freelancers told local media they were facing problems in completing the assignment on time, forcing some of them to close their accounts.
Besides freelancers, the snail-paced internet has also served blows to those affiliated with the digital marketing business. The digital marketers feared that the assignments given to the Pakistani freelancers could be transferred to India and Bangladesh if the internet issue persists.
Meanwhile, Pakistan ranked 198th in the world in latest internet speed rankings, said a report released by the World Population Review.
Pakistan ranked below Palestine, Bhutan, Ghana, Iraq, Iran, Lebanon, and Libya when it comes to speed of internet.
The average mobile internet download speed in Pakistan stands at 19.59 Mbps, while broadband internet speed is 15.52 Mbps on average.
