RAWALPINDI – Chief of Army Staff of Pakistan Army, General Syed Asim Munir called for stringent measures to deal with misinformation in his address at Margalla Dialogue 2024.
Sharing his views, the top general lamented rapid surge in false and misleading information. He was of view that technology played key role in the dissemination of information, and that spread of misleading information is a major challenge. COAS said stern laws and regulations should be in place to deal with those looking to destabilize political and social structures.
COAS said freedom of speech without restrictions is leading to the degradation of moral values in all societies as he reiterated strategy to fight the war Against Terrorism. He emphasized Islamabad’ commitment to regional and global peace amidst global challenges.
Gen Asim sheds light on several other issues, including meance of misinformation, growing extremism, and the need for collective global action on pressing matters like terrorism and climate change.
He also backed Pakistan’s current stancr for independent Palestinian state and consistently called for ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon. He denounced atrocities in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and called for increasing insecurity of minorities in India and abroad.
Army Chief said Pakistan expects Afghan Interim Government to ensure Afghan soil is not used for terrorism, while maintaining a comprehensive border management regime to secure its western borders, and stresses Pakistan will not be part of any global conflict but will continue to play a constructive role in promoting peace and stability worldwide.
