Former federal minister and PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry on Wednesday admitted that by not remaining in contact with the military leadership on the instructions of the former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan he made a ‘mistake’.
In an interview with the Voice of America (VOA), he claimed that the PTI’s present leadership was opposed to Imran’s release from the Adiala Jail. Fawad said categorically that he was in the PTI and would remain its part. He revealed that it was the PTI founder who asked him to leave the party when he had told him that he was being tortured during detention.
Separately talking to the media at the premises of an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Lahore, the former federal minister said he had come to show solidarity with incarcerated PTI leaders Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Omar Sarfaraz Cheema and Ejaz Chaudhry. He said that the people of Pakistan would lose if Imran Khan did not succeed.
Fawad said that when he had not left the PTI, how the question of returning to the party could arise. When asked whether he would enjoy the same status in the PTI, which he enjoyed prior to the ouster of the party’s government in April 2022, the former federal minister said to him posts did not matter; what was necessary was the PTI founder’s success.—INP
