Fake degree case PPP leader Bibi Yasmin convicted for two years

The district and sessions judge Badin, Mr Farooq Ahmed Abbasi on Wednesday convicted Bibi Yasmin Shah, the former Senator and PPP leader in Badin district, for two years.
The verdict was announced after she was found guilty of having fake school certificates. The court announced the verdict in the light of the plea of the counsel of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) who claimed that it was officially confirmed and substatained that Bibi Yasmin Shah contested the election of Senate of Pakistan inn 2002 and others general elections by producing fake school certificates.

The judge also fined her Rs 5000 and failing which she will undergo another three months in jail. Police contingents of the police arrested Bibi Yasmin Shah and sent her to Hyderabad Central Jail to serve out her term, soon after the verdict was pronounced. Bibi Yasmin Shah, the wife of an influential political figure of Badin district and former provincial minister Syed Ali Bux aka Pappu Shah, was elected member of Senate of Pakistan during General Pervez Musharraf regime of the ticket of PML-Q for six years.

The couple had joined the Pakistan Peoples Party much before the general elections in 2018 and Ms. Shah had filed her nomination papers to contest the elections against her rival Dr. Fehmida Mirza from Badin district. Dr. Mirza had first challenged her documents in Sindh High Court, which had allowed her to contest the elections but the Supreme Court in an order had disqualified her.

Earlier in July 2018, hearing a petition filed by her political rival Dr. Fehmida Mirza, Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had pointed out that the PPP leader’s matriculation.
