Everton have managed to secure their Premier League status after staving off relegation.

The Toffees rallied from two goals down before Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored 5 minutes from time to snatch a thrilling 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace at a raucous Goodison Park.

Merseysiders had not been relegated to the second division in 68 years.

That trend seemed to be on the out after recent results and was becoming a real possibility when Jean-Philippe Mateta (21 min) and Jordan Ayew (36min) scored in the first half for Palace.

Eberechi Eze’s free-kick was met by Matete with a simple header that found the back of the net as Everton’s set-piece woes were on show again.

Ayew was fortunate not to receive a red card after a crunching tackle on Anthony Gordan and managed to score the second goal for the visitors minutes later.

As Palace broke into the box, a mix-up between Jordan Pickford and defender Vitali Mykolenko allowed Wilfred Zaha to fire at goal and the ball ricocheted into the net off Ayew after 36 minutes.

Everton came alive in the second half and responded after the break with goals from Michael Keane (54 mins) and Richarlison (75 mins) to restore parity.

Roared on by the fans, Everton went looking for an equalizer that would erase Premier League relegation fears this season.

It was Calvert-Lewin, a player who has drawn some criticism for his perceived poor performances in recent weeks, who came up with their magic moment to send Goodison Park wild sparking a pitch invasion from the home fans in the process.

Everton moved to 39 points from 37 games, four clear of relegation rivals Burnley and Leeds United with only a game left.

They go into Sunday’s final game of the season at Champions League-chasing Arsenal with no pressure on them.
