KASHMIR dispute remains one of the most enduring and painful conflicts in the world. For decades, the people of Kashmir have endured unimaginable suffering at the hands of Indian forces, who have consistently sought to suppress their legitimate demand for self-determination. From mass arrests, arbitrary detentions and enforced disappearances to the widespread use of violence against innocent civilians, the atrocities against Kashmiris have reached unprecedented levels, especially under the current leadership of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The narrative of violence against Kashmiris has escalated over the years, with reports of brutal crackdowns, widespread surveillance, and severe restrictions on freedom of speech and assembly.
However, despite these ongoing attempts to crush their spirit, the Kashmiri people have remained resolute in their demand for freedom. Their will to pursue self-determination is unshakable and this resilience serves as a testament to the indomitable human spirit. History is filled with examples of nations and peoples struggling against oppressive regimes and colonial forces. In every case, oppression, no matter how severe, has eventually failed to quash the collective yearning for freedom. As also pointed out by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during a visit to Bhimber, AJK, the sacrifices of Kashmiri people will not go in vain and, undoubtedly, they will see the dawn of independence. Pakistan has consistently stood by the people of Kashmir in their just struggle. The PM in his address reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to extending moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people. It is crucial for other nations to honour their promises to the Kashmiri people, as laid out in numerous UN Security Council resolutions. The international community has a moral obligation to hold India accountable and ensure that the voice of Kashmiris is heard on the world stage. It is also time for the Muslim world to come forward in solidarity with the Kashmiri people. The struggle of the Kashmiris is not just their own—it is a universal struggle for justice, dignity and human rights. The world must not forget the promise of freedom that was made to the Kashmiri people.
