RAWALPINDI – The Punjab government has nodded administrative approval for launching the electric bus service in garrison city of Rawalpindi.
The approval comes over a month after the decision was taken about the project in a meeting of the provincial development working party on October 25.
As per the plan, the project will be completed by November 2025 with estimated cost of Rs7 billion. The provincial government has released Rs4.7 billion for the project.
Rawalpindi Electric Bus Routes
The electric bus service will operate on 10 different routes across Rawalpindi while it will cover a distance of 84 kilometers.
The Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMA) will be responsible to implement the project, which will be helpful in tackling air pollution in the city.
PMA is a statutory body established by Government of the Punjab with the purpose of planning, construction, operation and maintenance of mass transit systems in the major cities of the province; for providing safe, efficient and comfortable urban transportation system.
PMA’s vision is to provide state-of-the-art mass transit system for all. The mission of PMA is to establish and operate mass transit system ensuring safety, comfort and efficacy. The features of mass transit system are planned to cater to the vision and mission of the Authority.
