As Eid-ul-Fitar festivities approach in Lower South Waziristan District, the bustling markets of Rustam Bazar in Wana witness a surge in activity. However, amidst the hustle and bustle, a somber reality looms over the local residents – the soaring prices of imported shoes from countries like Turkey, China, and Iran.

According to shopkeeper Ijaz Wazir, while the foot traffic in Rustam Bazar has increased, the high inflationary pressures have deterred buyers from making purchases. He lamented that despite the crowds, customers often leave the market empty-handed, unable to afford the inflated prices of foreign footwear.

Local citizen Noor Ali Wazir highlighted the impact of the suspension of business at the Angoor Adda border, attributing it to the significant hike in shoe prices.

Expressing frustration, other local citizens condemned the provincial government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for its failure to address the inflationary crisis. They criticized the government’s rhetoric on controlling prices.
