ISLAMABA D Pakistan on Tuesday reported 5829 cases of Coronavirus after more cases were confirmed in the country and the death tally reached 100 as five more patients succumbed to the virus. According to details, 2,856 patients have been tested positive for the epidemic in Punjab till now, 1,518 in Sindh, 800 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 248 in Balochistan, 233 in Gilgit Baltistan, 131 in Islamabad and 43 in Azad Kashmir. So far, 1,378 patients have recovered in the country while 46 are in critical condition. Meanwhile, six more doctors at the Nishtar Hospital in Multan tested positive on Tuesday for the novel coronavirus, the hospital staff confirmed. According to the staff, 22 doctors at the hospital have tested positive for the virus so far. More virus tests of doctors, paramedics, and other officials related to the hospital are being carried out, the hospital administration said. According to Punjab health authorities, 701 pilgrims, 977 associated with Raiwind Tableeghi Ijtima, 89 prisoners and 1059 others tested positive for the virus. The health department reported that 59 inmates in Lahore, 14 in Sialkot, nine in Dera Ghazi Khan and seven in Gujranwala tested positive. The spokesperson said 457 pilgrims in Multan, 221 pilgrims in DG Khan, and 23 pilgrims in Faisalabad tested positive. The virus has so far claimed 24 lives in the province, whereas 508 have recovered. According to Balochistan government spokesperson Liaquat Shahwani, the number of confirmed cases of the virus have surged to 248 in the province. Seventeen new coronavirus cases were confirmed in Balochistan, Shahwani confirmed. The Balochistan government also confirmed that another patient of coronavirus passed away, bringing the provincial death toll to two on Tuesday. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, during his daily briefing on the coronavirus situation in the province, revealed that in the past 24 hours, four more persons had succumbed to the novel virus in Sindh, taking the provincial death toll to 35. After these latest fatalities, the death rate from Covid-19 in the province, which is the percentage of people who tested positive for the virus and later passed away, reached 2.3 per cent, up from 2.1pc a day earlier. The chief minister said 66 new cases of the novel coronavirus were detected in the past day, while a total of 663 tests were conducted, which translates into a positive test rate of around 10pc. The number of coronavirus cases in Karachi has topped 1,000, according to an update from the provincial health department. Karachi now accounts for more than 65 per cent of total cases in Sindh. Another patient of coronavirus succumbed to the deadly virus in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, bringing the province’s death toll to 37 on Tuesday. The 7o-yearold women patient was taken to Lady Reading Hospital, Peshawar on Monday. Five more people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus in Dera Ismail Khan, the deputy commissioner of the area told the media in statement on Tuesday morning. A resident of the city was tested positive for the virus along with three family remembers and a friend, the deputy commissioner said, adding that the locality where the virus-positive patients lived had been sealed.
