A meeting chaired by Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi, has resolved to continue the campaign against soft encroachments that contribute to traffic congestion in the city. The meeting, which included all Deputy Commissioners via video link, focused on strategies to prevent re-encroachment and implement effective measures to manage traffic flow. In attendance were Additional Commissioner-II Syed Ghazanfar Ali Shah, Assistant Commissioner Headquarters Rabia Syed, and other officials.
The meeting emphasized taking legal action against individuals who re-encroach on cleared areas and ensuring the maintenance of traffic flow on roads from which encroachments have been removed.
Various areas were discussed, including the removal of encroachments from key roads such as Akbar Road, Abdullah Haroon Road, MA Jinnah Road, II Chundrigar Road, Garden Nishtar Road, Chakiwara, and Paper Market. Deputy Commissioner South AltafSario reported similar actions in District East, including Continental Hotel Bakery Road and Khudadad Colony Soldier Bazaar. Encroachments in GulshanIqbal, including citizen-established barriers, were also cleared.
The meeting also addressed actions to be taken by the district administration East from Hassan Square to NipaChowrangi, focusing on improving traffic flow on University Road and Safora Goth.
Deputy Commissioner Central FawadGhaffarSomroo reported ongoing efforts at Water Pump Ayesha Manzil and Five Star Chowrangi. Additionally, the meeting discussed collaboration with the Wildlife Department to permanently remove the bird market in Liaquatabad, which has been repeatedly cleared. Deputy Commissioner KeamariJunaid Khan updated on encroachments removed from 12 roads and service roads, including SITE Rashidabad and Manghopir Road, and the removal of truck parking at Truck Stand Hawksbay.
District Korangi saw action on six roads, while 13 operations were conducted in District Malir, including the area under the Quaidabad Flyover. The meeting also reviewed the ongoing operation to remove illegal and unsafe billboards, with Deputy Commissioners reporting progress in their respective districts. Deputy Commissioner West Ahmed Ali Siddiqui presented a report on inspections of hospitals, dispensaries, and basic health units, highlighting the need for improvements. A forthcoming meeting with health department officials and Deputy Commissioners will focus on enhancing basic health services.
