Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to transform the Sindh Police into a technologically advanced and efficient force, aiming to enhance public safety and strengthen trust in law enforcement. Addressing participants of the 51st Specialised Training Program and 27th Initial Command Course for Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) at CM House, Mr Shah highlighted the Sindh government’s commitment to modernising the oldest police organisation in the subcontinent, established in 1843.
Senior officials, including Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah, Home Secretary Iqbal Memon, and IG Police Ghulam Nabi Memon, attended the event.
The CM detailed the rollout of the Smart Surveillance System, which will install advanced cameras at 40 toll plazas across Sindh. This system aims to provide real-time monitoring at critical entry and exit points, improving response times and operational efficiency using state-of-the-art intelligence tools. Highlighting urban safety, Murad Shah underscored the Karachi Safe City Project, which is set to enhance law enforcement capabilities in Pakistan’s largest city, promising a safer environment for its residents.
Murad Shah noted the Sindh Habitual Offenders Monitoring Act, 2022, as a groundbreaking measure. Using GPS-enabled anklets and bracelets, habitual criminals involved in street crimes will be electronically monitored, ensuring real-time tracking and safer communities. The Sindh government has significantly increased funding for key departments: Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD): Rs 2.7 billion, Special Branch: Rs 1.2 billion, Investigation Branch: Rs 600 million, The CM also allocated Rs 6 billion to improve police stations, granting Station House Officers (SHOs) Drawing and Disbursing Officer (DDO) powers. Incentives for investigating officers achieving convictions have been introduced to boost efficiency.
The CM announced a health insurance program worth Rs 4.961 billion for police personnel and their families. Additionally, the Shaheed (Martyr) Package was enhanced, increasing compensation from Rs 10 million to Rs 23 million, ensuring salaries continue until retirement age, and offering two government jobs to the families of martyred officers. CM Shah emphasised training for police officers, prosecutors, and judges to effectively implement laws and policies. He also highlighted capacity-building initiatives to prepare law enforcement for modern challenges.
With these initiatives, the Sindh government is laying the foundation for a model police force. “Our reforms aim to make Sindh Police a modern, technology-driven institution that fosters public confidence,” Murad Shah said.
