Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani has called on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) to recognize its responsibility as the ruling party in one province and focus on the welfare of its people. Speaking to the media during an inspection of the Korangi Causeway project on Wednesday, Ghani stressed that political parties should engage in constructive talks but expressed concern that PTI Chairman Imran Khan might disrupt negotiations.
Ghani highlighted the Sindh government’s progress on various development projects. He noted that work on the Korangi Causeway was progressing rapidly, with the project expected to be completed ahead of its two-year deadline. The project involves the installation of 611 girders, of which 528 have been assembled, and piling work is nearing completion. Ghani also urged the Sindh Chief Minister to accelerate funding to ensure timely completion.
The minister announced that a new bridge next to the Jam Sadiq Bridge would be completed within six to eight months. Additionally, the Malir Expressway has been renamed the Shaheed Bhutto Expressway. Its first phase, nine kilometers long, will be inaugurated by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, allowing commuters to traverse the distance in just eight minutes. Ghani emphasized that the expressway would adhere to international standards, with motorcycles and rickshaws prohibited and fines imposed for speeding.
The toll tax for using the expressway is set at Rs 100, with alternate toll-free routes available for those unwilling to pay. He reaffirmed that the full 38-40 km expressway project, aimed at easing congestion and providing a swift commute, is expected to be completed by the year’s end, benefiting thousands of Karachi residents.
