Chief Justice of Supreme Court Justice Qazi Faez Isa fined Rs10,000 to a public lawyer and expressed outrage over the bad practice of demanding an adjournment in a case. According to a private TV channel, Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa heard the case about a land ownership dispute between the residents of Sukkur and the Auqaf Department in the Supreme Court’s Karachi Registry on Friday. The department’s counsel Ghulam Shabir Lashari appeared before the court and requested adjournment in the land dispute case. The Chief Justice was enraged when the department’s lawyer asked for an adjournment and imposed a fine of 10,000 rupees. The Chief Justice said that everyone has made a joke of the Supreme Court, the case has been pending for 10 years and more adjournment is being sought. The Chief Justice said that a fine of 10,000 rupees is levied for asking for an adjournment. “This is not a civil court, you should not ask for an adjournment even in a civil court,” the Chief Justice added.
