In a targeted attack in Karachi’s Saddar area, a Chinese national was killed while two others were injured, police officials said on Wednesday.

The attacker entered a dental clinic wearing a mask and opened fire on Dr Richard HU, his wife Margrate Hu and Ronald.

Later, Ronald succumbed to his injuries while Dr Richard and his wife were rushed to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. According to JPMC officials, Margrate is in stable condition while Dr Richard was transported to a private hospital.

According to the police, the incident took place at 4:05pm at Dr HU Dentist Clinic. They said that the attacker, wearing a trouser and a blue shirt, was about 30 to 32 years old.

“He was sitting in the waiting area for the treatment [scaling] and suddenly opened fire on them [foreign nationals],” SSP South Asad Raza told media.

He said that the victims have been running the dental clinic for a long time and did not receive any threats.

Police have initiated the probe and are trying to get CCTV footage of the area. All the victims have also Pakistani nationality.

Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah condemned the incident and expressed his regret. He sought a report from Sindh Chief Secretary over the shooting incident.

“Such incidents are intolerable and the accused should be arrested as soon as possible,” he added. He also directed to ensure the security of Chinese citizens residing in Pakistan.
