Carlos Alcaraz will not be at the Wimbledon tune-up event at Queen’s Club in London because of a slight elbow issue, the 19-year-old said on Wednesday.
“As u all know, I was super excited to play at @QueensTennis but a slight elbow issue means I can’t! I hope to be there in 2023… see u all in the UK in a few days!” the world number seven tweeted.
Carlos Alcaraz arrives at Wimbledon as one of the hottest prospects to overtake tennis once the era of the “Big Three” comes to an end.
The Spaniard has taken the tennis world by storm getting the better of Nadal and Djokovic in successive matches once already this year.
His Madrid Open triumph skyrocketed his rise with many calling him the successor to Rafael Nadal.
He parlayed that hype into reaching the quarter-finals at the French Open last month, becoming the youngest player in 29 years to reach two Grand Slam quarter-finals after also making the U.S. Open last eight.
The teenager, after his back-to-back titles in Barcelona and Madrid on clay, will look to continue his good form on grass ahead of Wimbledon which begins on June 27.
Though more suited to clay, his combination of power and athleticism can cause trouble to any on a given day.
