Two soldiers, including a captain, embraced martyrdom during security forces’ intelligence-based operation in the Hassan Khel area of Peshawar on Sunday.

As per a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), security forces launched an operation on the reported presence of terrorists.

During the operation, five terrorists were killed and three injured. However, during an intense exchange of fire, leading his troops from the front, Captain Hussain Jahangir (age: 25 years, resident of Rahim Yar Khan District) along with another brave son of soil, Havildar Shafiq Ullah (age: 36 years, resident of District Karak), having fought gallantly, made the ultimate sacrifice and embraced Shahadat, military’s media wing stated.

The ISPR further stated that a sanitisation operation was being carried out in the area to eliminate any remaining terrorists. It stated that the security forces of Pakistan were determined to eradicate the menace of terrorism. “Such sacrifices of our brave soldiers further strengthen our resolve,” the statement reads.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces are badly hit by terrorism. During the first quarter of 2024, the majority of the terrorist attacks and most casualties have been reported from these two provinces.

The Security Report issued by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) revealed that Pakistan witnessed at least 432 fatalities and 370 injuries among civilians, security personnel and outlaws in 245 incidents of terror attacks and counter-terror operations.

Amongst 432 deaths, 281 included that of civilians and security forces personnel.
