ISLAMABAD – Secretary, Board of Investment, Ms. Fareena Mazhar delivered closing remarks on the conclusion of two-day workshop on bilateral investment conducted on 29th and 30th June, 2020.
The Secretary addressed all the speakers and participants of the session and especially acknowledged the efforts of United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), Geneva, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Legal Wing of BOI for coordinating and arranging the training workshop.
She also highlighted that participants from various federal ministries and regional and provincial departments benefitted from the training.
The secretary conveyed her gratitude to UNCTAD for providing assistance in designing the Bilateral Investment Treaties (BIT) program which is currently in the final phase of approval.
She further added that such initiatives undertaken by UNCTAD will not only help Pakistan modernize it’s old stock of International Investment Agreements (IIAs) but will also prove beneficial for other developing countries working towards reforming their BIT regime.
Ms. Fareena concluded her remarks by sharing that she was positive that the workshop would equip the participants with in-depth knowledge of successful BIT models, best practices, design, implementation and management, policy and regulatory frameworks conducive for developing successful IIAs.
