ISLAMABAD – Pakistanis are bearing brunt of record gas and electricity prices and now the outgoing government raised gas prices for the second time in recent months in a bid to cut subsidy-related debt.
The new hike aimed to meet conditions set by the International Monetary Fund IMF. Furthermore, the recent price hikes are part of broader reforms in gas sectors, including the phasing out of subsidies.
This time Oil and Gas Regularly Authority (OGRA) jacked up the gas tariff of Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) by over 35pc and Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGCL) by over 8pc.
