Seven people including two children injured

An exchange of fire took place between Afghan citizens and tribal residents of Kurram district in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) after the former attempted to build a road in Pakistani territory, injuring at least seven people including two children.

According to the leader of Turi-Bangash tribes and eyewitnesses, Afghan citizens tried to build a road on Saturday in Kharlachi area of Kurram district on the Pakistani border which triggered a gunfight between the two groups.

However, a ceasefire was reached with the efforts of the Jirga.

On Sunday, the heavy gun battle erupted between the two groups after Afghan residents forcibly started construction of a road on Pakistani territory.

The heavy firing between Afghans and Pakistani tribal residents spread fear and tensions in the area.

In a statement, Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis Sajid Turi said Pakistani forces retaliated against the targeting of the local population by the Afghans.

He also condemned the violation by Afghan side and targeting of civilian population.

Land disputes between people on both sides of the border should be resolved through bilateral Jirga and diplomatic channels, Turi added.

According to hospital sources, two children were seriously injured and several livestock were killed due to the shelling from Afghanistan on the local population.

Two FC personnel also sustained injuries in the exchange of fire, the sources added.
