Different communities have their unique ways to cook and serve food. Pakistan is a country rich in ethnic and cultural diversity with people belonging to a variety of communities.In Karachi, Pakistan’s largest city in terms of population, the diversity and uniqueness are even more as this is a metropolitan with almost 25 million people.Karachi’s Bohra community has its unique way of preparing and serving food to the people of other groups. This year the Dawoodi’s Bohra Community arranged the food festival from February 24 to 26 at the North Walk Mall in the city Nazimabad’s neighbourhood.
The food was of multiple range with Bohra chicken, Bohra biryani, cutlets, malai khaja, khaosay, gur papdi, bharta, sev puri, paani puri, dosa, pao bhaji, vada pao, and beverages topped the list.
The important aspect about the food fest was a specific way the people consumed food – by adopting Bohra’s style. In this particular way, eight people sat around one thaal (a large tray) and enjoyed their food.The event organizers said that the major purpose behind the fest was to make people familiar with the foods of Bohra community.They said efforts would be made to make it a yearly event as it promoted diversity and cultural richness.A lot of people attended the event and, meanwhile, there were gaming stations for the children so that whole families take part with the entry fee of only Rs100.
The people said the price of the offered foods was not expensive as compared to the other outlets and there were Gujrati dishes also being served.
