An explosion has sparked panic in the Poonch district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to the Kashmir Media Service, there were no reports of any injuries in the explosion, which occurred near Poonch Hospital late on Tuesday.

The blast was reported in a lane adjacent to a religious place in the vicinity of the district hospital in Poonch town, causing panic among the locals, said police officials.

A police officer stated that they received information about a suspected small-intensity explosion-like sound heard from an area near Poonch Hospital.

“Necessary investigation into the matter has been initiated to ascertain the exact nature of the material, which apparently looks like a handmade crude substance,” he said.

Indian troops, police personnel, and forensic experts rushed to the scene to investigate the nature of the blast, officials said. Preliminary probes suggest that the blast occurred after suspected individuals hurled a Chinese grenade.

The entire area has been cordoned off, and a search operation has been launched in the town. Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested two people in connection with the blast.—KMS
