The counting of votes in the remaining six states in the US presidential election has entered the final stage. Democratic candidate Joe Biden has taken the lead four of the six states over his Republican rival, President Donald Trump. So far, results from 44 states and the capital, Washington, D.C., have been announced, with Joe Biden leading the way with 253 votes. President Donald Trump has received 214 votes so far. Counting is still under way in six states, including Nevada and Arizona, where Biden already had the upper hand. Biden also outperformed his rivals in Pennsylvania and Georgia on Friday morning after counting more votes cast by mail. Pennsylvania has 20 electoral votes, and if Biden wins in that state alone, he will be elected president. Any candidate for president of the United States needs the support of at least 270 of the 538 members of the Electoral College, and Biden is just 17 votes away from that goal. In the other two states where votes are being counted, North Carolina and Alaska, President Trump still holds the lead. But Donald Trump still needs at least 56 Electoral College votes to be re-elected. That means President Trump will have to win in addition to Alaska and North Carolina, as well as Pennsylvania and Georgia, as well as a state in Nevada or Arizona, which now seems difficult.
Meanwhile, the US Secret Service has increased its protective bubble around
Biden as chances increased that he will be the next US president, the Washington Post reported.
The Secret Service sent an extra squad of agents to Biden’s campaign headquarters in Wilmington, Delaware as expectations rose that the Democratic candidate would be able to declare victory over President Donald Trump as early as Friday, the Post reported.
The Secret Service, an agency under the Department of Homeland Security, is in charge or protecting the White House and senior government officials, visiting high officials, and others. It had already deployed some agents to protect Biden around early July after he triumphed in the Democratic Party´s presidential primaries.
As a former vice president, Biden could have requested Secret Service protection before then, but reportedly did not.
