Punjab Minister for Law, Parliamentary Affairs and Social Welfare Raja Basharat has directed law-enforcing agencies, including the police, to make stringent security arrangements during Kashmir Solidarity day, Kabaddi World Cup commencing from February 9, the Rawalpindi Cricket Test Match and PSL cricket matches, especially ensure foolproof security in all respects for foreign teams coming to play.
He was presiding over a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Law and Order in the Civil Secretariat on Tuesday. The meeting was also attended by Provincial Minister for Population Welfare Rao Hashim Dogar, Provincial Minister for Sports Taimur Ahmed Khan, PTDC Chairman Sohail Zafar Cheema, Additional Chief Secretary Home Momin Agha, Additional IG Punjab and other related officers.
Heads of law enforcing agencies briefed the committee on security arrangements while administrative heads of the respective divisions and districts presented their security plan via video link. The committee was informed that during all the international matches, there would be strict security around the routes, residences of foreigners and stadiums while the Punjab Police as well as the Pakistan Army and Rangers would also be deployed as per need.
Raja Basharat urged that special care be taken to minimise traffic problems for common commuters during matches. He said that the security plan should be reviewed in a timely manner repeatedly and keeping the security alert from the beginning till end of all matches. He said that it was encouraging for us that the foreign teams were now coming to Pakistan without fear and danger but we must leave no stone unturned to maintain this soft image by averting any terroristic attempt by our cunning foes.
