ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Army has formed a high-powered committee to probe allegations of corruption against former Director General Inter-Services Intelligence Lt General (retired) Faiz Hameed.
Initial reports claimed that a two-star general would head the committee against the former spy chief, who remained involved in several controversies after his retirement.
It has been learnt that the army started investigations against Faiz Hameed on the complaint of the owner of the private housing society. The inquiry committee will probe in light of the directions of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Investigators will then suggest action against the former intelligence chief in light of findings under the fresh probe.
Recently, Faizabad Dharna (sit-in) Inquiry Commission cleared Faiz Hameed. The Commission, established in light of the Supreme Court’s directives, was led by former IG Aftab Ali Shah.
The three-member inquiry commission led by former IG Aftab Ali Shah examined the activities related to the Faizabad Dharna of the Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) and prepared the recommendations. Faiz Hameed was supposed to sign the contract as Major General DG (C ) ISI. At that time, the then Army Chief and DG ISI had given permission to General Faiz Hameed for the contract, it said.
The report highlighted implementation of all points of the National Action Plan and stressed the need to address the weaknesses in the police’s command and control system.
For the unversed, Lt-Gen Faiz Hamid sought early retirement, a day before the change in command at army’s General Headquarters (GHQ) in November 2022.
