The Polio eradication campaign in the Tank district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa received another blow on Sunday when within short span of twenty-four hours in yet another attack a security man assigned to protect the Polio vaccinators, was gunned down in the district on Sunday.
Also on Saturday the unidentified terrorists targeted the Polio Team in Tank district leaving a cop guard-ing the vaccinators martyred and another seriously wounded.
Armed men who riding on a motorcycle attacked the Polio Security team in Chhadrar area of Tank, had managed to flee after committing the crime.
“A police official was martyred during an armed attack on the polio vaccination team in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s district Tank on Sunday”.
The dis-trict administration said.Tank Deputy Commissioner Tank Kabir Khan Af-ridi confirmed the reports of the attack saying some armed men opened fire at a police constable deputed for providing security to the polio vaccination team in Tank’s Shada village.
“The constable died on the spot while the assailants managed to escape”.Af-ridi said.
The security forces have already kicked off the search operation to net those responsible for attacks on the Polio teams.
Polio teams administering Polio drops and that mostly comprise of the female health volunteers as well as the Policemen providing security to the vac-cinators , have been under terrorists for the last many years in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as dozens of polio workers mostly female and scores of cops were killed and many others sustained seri-ous injuries in the assaults against the Polio teams which had not only sent a wave of terror, anxiety and harassment among the Polio staff in the country but had also attracted serious concern of the interna-tional community.
