As expected, the Election Commission of Pakistan has announced not to allot ‘bat’ as an election symbol to the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf over ‘botched intra-party elections’.

A five-member bench of the ECP announced its decision on Friday on the pleas against the PTI’s intra-party elections. Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja presided over the bench.

In its reserved verdict, the electoral watchdog said former ruling party would not be given bat symbol in general election 2024 as it failed to organise election as per its constitution, and Election Act.

Last month, Election Commission of Pakistan ordered embattled PTI to hold intra-party elections within 20 days or risk losing its electoral symbol.

PTI, that is facing hard times after May 9 attacks, held election in early December and Barrister Gohar Khan elected new chairman. All PTI’s office holders had been elected unopposed in the election.

PTI reacts after losing its bat symbol

PTI responded after being stripped off bat symbol. The party said bat is not dead. “Long live the bat. We will inshAllah win on 8th February”, it said.

This is a developing story, and will be updated later…
