In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Anjuman Sharie Shian has condemned the authorities for detaining Muharram mourners and booking them under draconian law, Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
The spokesman of Anjuman Sharie Shian in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the brute force used on the mourners had no justification in today’s dignified world. He said that the mourners were not only beaten up but also slapped with frivolous charges, while dozens were lying in hospitals for the injuries inflicted on them by the Indian police.
The spokesman said, “Both civil and police administration failed to implement the ‘model’ that we had proposed to them to contain COVID-19 infection. Instead, they used brute force and dealt with the mourners ruthlessly.” He added that property was also damaged by the police during the Muharram processions.
“A large number of mourners were arrested from Zadibal, Bemina, Badgam and other areas and their relatives who wait outside different police stations are being humiliated,” the spokesman deplored.
The spokesman said that Anjuman Shari Shian will provide every kind of legal aid to those who had been arrested for taking part in Muharram processions. Anjuman Sharie Shian demanded immediate release of all illegally detained mourners.—KMS
