Nepal and Pakistan share many challenges and opportunities and there exists huge potential to utilize their resources and strengthen cooperation in many fields, he said. Unfortunately both countries are impacted by climate change despite the fact they had little carbon footprint.

Leghari called for cooperation between the two countries and called for taking practical measures to counter the “horrible reality”.

Earlier in his welcome speech, the ambassador said that the Nepal-Pakistan bilateral relations were marked by cordiality, friendship and cooperation.

Since he is completing his diplomatic term in Pakistan Ambassador Adhikari called this period quite eventful, positive and productive. I made friends with a large number of Pakistanis from diverse fields and professions, he said.

“My last four years have been fruitful, memorable and productive and it was not possible without the cooperation of members of both the diplomatic community and friends in Pakistan,” Adhikari said.

He thanked the government of Pakistan, officials of the MoFA and friends for their cooperation in successfully achieving his mission. “Pakistan will be in my heart forever,” the ambassador said.

The news that the Nepalese ambassador is leaving soon made everyone a little sad as Tapas Adhikari for his unassuming nature, his understanding of the basic Urdu and Punjabi languages and above all his taste for music, culture and knowledge of the Pakistani history and heritage has become a favourite with everyone.

About Nepal, the ambassador said his country was a learning centre for mountaineering where a large number of foreign tourists visited for trekking and mountaineering and other adventure-related activities. On the National Day of Nepal, he said the Constitution of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal was promulgated on September 20, 2015. “The Constitution of Nepal embodies a federal system of governance and democratic norms and values as well as principles of human rights and human dignity,” he said. “The Constitution is not just a document; it’s a social contract that upholds the values of modern democracy, placing inclusivity at the heart of its vision,” he said.

A cake was also cut on the occasion and the national anthems of both countries were played. Earlier in the morning, the Ambassador hoisted the national flag of Nepal in the Embassy premises. Nepali citizens living in Pakistan also attended the ceremony.
