Karachi authorities launched a special crackdown on price violations, resulting in heavy fines imposed on over 200 retailers. The Deputy Commissioner of Karachi, Muhammad Salim Rajput, personally oversaw the initiative, directing officers to enforce government-set prices rigorously. The operation involved collaboration between law enforcement agencies, food departments, and measurement authorities, with officers instructed to assist the administration in maintaining price stability. On Friday alone, authorities fined a total of 207 retailers, collecting more than Rs. 2.1 million in penalties. Additionally, 20 shops were sealed for non-compliance.

Last Thursday’s enforcement actions saw fines totaling over Rs. 12.2 million imposed on 1,549 retailers across various districts. Notably, significant fines were collected from retailers in southern, eastern, western, and central districts, amounting to Rs. 644,000, Rs. 281,000, Rs. 227,000, and Rs. 631,000 respectively.

0This crackdown underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring fair pricing and protecting consumers’ interests during the holy month of Ramadan.
