The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KW&SC) has announced that 90% of the city’s water supply has been restored, while the remaining 10% will be restored by Monday.According to the KW&SC Spokesperson, repair work on Line No. 5 at Dhabeji Pumping Station, which was disrupted due to a power breakdown, was completed two days ago.
Additionally, 70% of the repair work on PRCC Line No. 1 has been completed and is expected to be finished by Monday. Repair operations are continuing nonstop, 24 hours a day.Currently, the city is facing a daily shortfall of only 45 million gallons per day (MGD) from the Dhabeji Pumping Station.
The KW&SC Spokesperson explained that additional time is required to complete the repairs on the PRCC Line, with the primary delay attributed to desilting A total of 160 feet of silt had accumulated in ten 16-foot pipes, posing significant challenges for the KW&SC team.
Workers began manually removing the silt this morning since heavy machinery cannot access the pipeline’s interior. So far, silt has been cleared from six pipes, while desilting efforts continue on the remaining four. The Spokesperson noted that the desilting process will significantly improve water supply once completed.
It is important to note that two water lines at the Dhabeji Pumping Station were affected due to a sudden power breakdown caused by K-Electric.
