Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the Rescue 1122 Highway Operations under the World Bank-supported Sindh Flood Emergency Rehabilitation Project (SFERP). This major expansion establishes 15 new satellite stations along key highways and motorways, offering rapid emergency assistance to travelers and nearby communities.

The newly launched operations include state-of-the-art facilities like advanced ambulances, fire trucks, disaster management tools, and recovery vehicles. Speaking at the event in Gulshan-e-Maymar, Shah emphasized the transformative role Rescue 1122 has played since its launch in 2022, adding, “This expansion reflects our commitment to creating a safer and more resilient Sindh.”

Shah announced plans to extend Rescue 1122’s services to district and tehsil levels, providing province-wide access to free emergency services, including medical, firefighting, urban rescue, and lifesaving training via a unified helpline, 1122. Rehabilitation Minister Makhdoom Mahboob Zaman highlighted Rescue 1122’s life-saving contributions, citing over 700,000 medical emergencies handled and upcoming improvements in highway operations. Planning Minister Nasir Shah detailed modernization projects, including 10 hospital emergency wards, rehabilitation of 836 kilometers of roads, and restoration of 375 flood-damaged water schemes.

Mayor Murtaza Wahab called for a drainage system for Karachi during the event, to which CM Shah pledged a comprehensive solution. “Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has directed us to prioritize water and drainage systems for all communities,” Shah said. The Chief Minister revealed plans for utilizing barren land under the Green Initiative, focusing on corporate farming and increasing agricultural productivity.

He also addressed illegal land occupation in Sohrab Goth, ordering inquiries and stricter enforcement to prevent encroachments. Shah assured swift action to resolve issues plaguing the Karachi Intermediate Board, promising modernized exams and skilled appointments to improve educational outcomes. When asked about the prolonged court case regarding JPMC’s Executive Director, Shah expressed concern over the impact on patients. He reiterated the government’s dedication to addressing public grievances and advancing Sindh’s infrastructure and public services.
