Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah inaugurated the construction of the Hassan Suleman Memorial Hospital (HSMH) in Malir, a new healthcare facility aimed at providing free medical care to underserved communities. The project is a joint effort between Pakistani American doctors and the Sindh government.

The ceremony, held in Ibrahim Hyderi, was attended by provincial ministers, healthcare leaders, and philanthropists, including Sharjeel Memon, Sardar Shah, Jam Khan Shoro, VC Amjad Siraj Memon, and Mushtaq Chappra of the Patient Aid Foundation.

The 312-bed hospital is expected to open its doors in 2026, offering a range of services, including emergency care, cardiology, and specialized treatments, all free of cost. Speaking at the event, Murad Ali Shah referred to the hospital as “a beacon of hope” and announced a matching grant program for all donations. He reaffirmed his government’s dedication to supporting the project through funding, infrastructure, and operational assistance. Dr. Javed Suleman, Chairman of the Hassan Suleman Foundation, expressed gratitude to the Sindh government and President Asif Ali Zardari for their backing. He noted that the hospital embodies a mission to deliver high-quality, free healthcare to those in need, adding,

“This is more than a hospital; it’s a symbol of compassion.” Dr. Iqbal Zafar, President of HSMH, praised the collaboration between Pakistani Americans and their homeland, calling the project a “lifeline” for Malir.

Professor Dr. S. M. Tariq Rafi, chairperson of the initiative, highlighted the unwavering support of both President Zardari and Chief Minister Shah, describing the hospital as a place where brighter futures will begin. Upon completion, the hospital will stand as a testament to international cooperation and public-private partnership, addressing critical healthcare gaps in the region. Dr. Javed Suleman has pledged to perform the first coronary angioplasty at the facility, emphasizing its commitment to excellence in medical care.
