LAHORE – Good news for lawmakers of Punjab Assembly as the provincial legislature approved big increase in salaries of ministers, advisors, and unelected special assistants.
In recent legislation, the salary of Punjab Assembly members has been raised from Rs76,000 to Rs400,000 per month. The salary of the Speaker has been hiked from Rs125,000 to Rs950,000 rupees per month, while the Deputy Speaker’s salary has been increased from Rs120,000 to Rs775,000.

Meanwhile, salaries of provincial ministers, Chief Minister’s advisors, special assistants, and parliamentary secretaries also saw drastic surhe. Salary of parliamentary secretary has been increased from Rs83,000 to Rs451,000 per month.
Special assistants and advisors will now receive Rs665,000 per month, up from Rs100,000 previously.
The salary increases come at a time when inflation in Pakistan has dropped to its lowest level in 78 months, as reported by the State Bank of Pakistan. With further reduction in inflation expected, the timing of the pay raise has everyone talking.
