BEIJING – President Xi Jinping interacted with heads of prominent international economic organizations today at Great Hall of the People in Chinese capital Beijing, sharing views on global economy, China’s development, and the role of multilateralism in shaping future.
The meeting, which included leaders such as Dilma Rousseff (President of the New Development Bank), Kristalina Georgieva (Managing Director of the IMF), Ajay Banga (President of the World Bank), and Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala (Director-General of the WTO), focused on fostering global cooperation amid a period of significant international challenges. President Xi posed for a group photo with the leaders, acknowledging their long-standing support for China’s modernization and emphasizing the importance of collaboration in an increasingly interconnected world.
In his remarks, Chinese President said that the world has entered a new era of transformation and change, urging nations to view each other’s development as an opportunity rather than a challenge. He advocated for a future defined by global solidarity, mutual benefit, and win-win cooperation. Xi reiterated China’s commitment to supporting the Global South and advancing an inclusive, multipolar world economy.
Leaders from international economic organizations commended Beijing’s key role in global development, particularly highlighting its achievements in poverty reduction and its leadership in sustainable economic growth. They praised China for championing multilateralism and for its efforts in expanding reform and opening up, offering opportunities for developing nations through initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
President Xi also responded to the leaders’ comments, underscoring the need for cooperation to foster strong, sustainable global growth. He emphasized the importance of innovation, digital economies, and low-carbon technologies to drive future economic development. Xi warned against the dangers of decoupling and protectionism, advocating for economic interdependence as a path to mutual benefit and prosperity.
Chinese President briefed the leaders on the Third Plenary Session of the 20th CPC Central Committee, detailing key initiatives to ensure China’s continued economic success, noting that the country’s growth still contributes significantly to global economic development. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to further opening its economy, aligning with international economic standards, and sharing development benefits with the world.
Xi also touched on the need for reforms in global economic governance to ensure greater equity and representation, particularly for countries in the Global South. He called for effective, proactive engagement by international organizations to address these reforms and make the global system more just and reflective of the current global landscape.
He also addressed China-U.S. relations, advocating for dialogue, cooperation, and the resolution of differences while emphasizing China’s commitment to protecting its sovereignty and security.
