Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) has expressed serious concern over the alarming increase in traffic accidents in Karachi, urging authorities to take immediate action to address the issue. According to the party, multiple traffic accidents occur on a daily basis in the city, resulting in the loss of precious lives, which they describe as an irreplaceable loss for the nation.
The MQM-P accused the Traffic Police of prioritizing bribery over their duty to prevent accidents, which they claim is exacerbating the situation. The party further pointed out that the heavy traffic on Karachi’s roads during the daytime is one of the main contributors to these accidents, with unregulated movement causing significant risks.
In addition, the MQM-P highlighted the deteriorating state of roads across the city, stating that damaged roads are adding to the increasing number of accidents. They criticized the Sindh Government for neglecting critical infrastructure projects like the Karimabad Underpass and Red Line. The party alleged that the government is receiving commissions from contractors while leaving these vital projects incomplete, causing ongoing difficulties for citizens.
The work on the Red Line project, which has been dragging on for years, is particularly noted for causing daily discomfort for residents.
MQM-P also demanded that the Karachi Traffic Police enforce the law by preventing heavy traffic from entering the city during the day, urging that such measures are necessary to ensure public safety. In their statement, the MQM-P called on the Sindh Government to acknowledge the struggles of Karachi’s residents and prioritize the repair of broken roads while accelerating the progress on the Red Line project.
The party emphasized the need for the government to treat Karachi’s citizens with dignity and respect by taking swift and concrete action.
