NUML Islamabad celebrates Hangeul Day, strengthening ties with the Republic of Korea

The National University of Modern Languages (NUML) celebrated the 578th Hangeul Day, a momentous occasion marking the creation of the Korean alphabet and recognizing the deep cultural and educational ties between Pakistan and the Republic of Korea.

The event was organized by NUML’s Department of Korean Language & Culture in collaboration with the Islamabad King Sejong Institute and the Seed Program for Korean Studies.

The ceremony, held at the NUML Auditorium, Salam Block, was graced by esteemed guests, including Chief Guest, Mr. JeeEunSeok, Secretary of the Embassy of Korea, Director General (DG) NUML, Brig ShahzadMunir, and prominent members of the Korean and Pakistani communities. At the outset, the Dean of the Faculty of Languages welcomed attendees with an address that highlighted the importance of cultural exchange and the growing interest in Korean studies at NUML.

In his remarks, DG NUML Brig ShahzadMunir emphasized the historical and evolving ties between the two nations. He noted that the Korean language, which has now spanned 578 years, is among the world’s most influential languages, driven by Korea’s cultural wave and technological advancements. He also highlighted the significant global rise of East Asian countries, stating, “The future belongs to education and technology. Korea’s success in fields like technology, where Samsung has surpassed Apple, and the booming automobile industry, are examples of their progress.” He also recalled the commitment made by the Korean Ambassador during his last visit to provide 100% scholarships to NUML students, expressing gratitude for this generous support. He further added, “NUML is proud to be at the forefront of fostering international understanding through language and culture. Hangeul Day is a testament to our commitment to broadening our students’ horizons.” The Chief guest of the event Mr. JeeEunSeok, Secretary of the Korean Embassy, delivered the message of the Korean Ambassador to Pakistan, His Excellency Park Ki Jun. In his address, Mr. Seok underscored the importance of Hangeul Day and its historical significance, highlighting King Sejong the Great’s role in developing the Korean script.
