ISLAMABAD – The Islamabad High Court has sought a clear response from the federal government regarding whether or not Imran Khan’s military trial is under consideration.

Justice Mian Gul Hassan Aurangzeb of the Islamabad High Court was hearing the case against potential military detention and trial of Imran Khan

Imran Khan’s lawyer and the Additional Attorney General appeared before the court to present their arguments.

While hearing the petition, Justice Gul Hassan Aurangzeb remarked that Imran Khan is a civilian, and the military trial of a civilian is a matter of concern for both the petitioner and the court.

Justice Mian Gul Hassan also remarked that the petitioner’s lawyer mentioned a statement from the DG ISPR. If that is the case, a clear stance from the federation should be presented.

“If we say today that nothing is happening, and tomorrow you bring an order for a military trial, what will happen then?”

He instructed the federal government to consult and provide a clear response to the court by Monday.

At this point, the Additional Attorney General requested that the court first decide on the objections raised against the petition.

To this, Justice Gul Hassan responded that he was removing the objections raised by the Registrar’s Office.

The court mentioned that the Supreme Court’s decision on the trial of civilians in military courts existed.

“The federal government must respond: is the military trial of the PTI founder under consideration? If not, the petition will become ineffective, but if it is, the court will hear the case and make a decision,” remarked the judge.

Later, the court removed the objections and directed the Registrar’s Office to assign a number to the petition.

The court sought a response from the federal government and adjourned the hearing until September 16.
