WASHINGTON  – The United States of America (USA)  has expressed concern over the decision by the government to ban Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said in a press briefing that they have seen the government statements about banning a political party, and it appears that this is the beginning of a politically complicated process. However, the United States will keep an eye on this internal process and decisions.

He said that banning a political party is a matter of concern because this action is against human rights, freedom of expression, and the peaceful adherence to constitutional and democratic principles.

Matthew Miller added that the United States condemns political violence in any country, including Pakistan.

The U.S. is against human rights violations and wants to see respect for democratic values and fundamental rights, supporting the rule of law in Pakistan.

The State Department spokesperson further stated that the United States has always supported democratic processes and broader principles, including the rule of law and measures of justice.
