German organizations to partner with NAVTTC for bringing employment opportunities

The Vocational Training and Technical Education (TVET) Sector Support Programme (SSP) and German-Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (GPCCI) jointly organized an orientation session for the German enterprises working in Pakistan for enhanced cooperation in providing on-the-job training opportunities to the youth earning education in vocational training arena.
The event titled: “Partnerships with industry to promote TVET for the benefit of Pakistani youth” was held at the office of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) in Karachi recently where the leading industrialists from the top-notch German enterprises participated in the event. The orientation about the vocational education and technical training sector offered an insight to the industry representatives on the Competency-Based skills training and how they can contribute towards training of youth in Pakistan through offering workplace-based training opportunities.
Dr. Iqbal Thaheem, secretary general FPCCI welcomed the guests for the session and highlighted the significance of skills sector for meeting the human resource requirements of private sector. He mentioned that recognizing the significance of TVET sector, FPCCI is collaborating with government of Pakistan through National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) under the umbrella of National Skills Forum since 2017.
Anjum Nisar President, FPCCI said that the vibrant business community of Pakistan is playing a pivotal role in economic progress, as we collaborate with the key stakeholders, international experts and institutions, to suggest realignments in government policies with the changing needs and evolving dynamics of global trade and commerce. We are inspiring fresh efforts towards capacity-building and skills development to nurture a globally competitive workforce.”
Danesh Dinshaw, secretary general, GPCCI speaking at the occasions said that, “business community can play a vital role in the economic development of Pakistan and contributing in training youth can turn beneficial for both youth as well as industry”. Acknowledging the efforts of GPCCI, FPCCI and TVET SSP, GIZ; Dr. Waseem Shamshad, Managing Director Sindh Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) praised the efforts of all the development partners and stakeholders for highlighting TVET among private sector representatives for their enhanced cooperation in offering on-the-job trainings.
Ms. Iris Cordelia Rotzoll, Team Lead for Private Sector Engagement on behalf of TVET Sector Support Programme apprised the industrialists of German enterprises about the key interventions of Programme and highlighted industry’s role in offering workplace-based training to the youth under Competency Based Training (CBT) initiatives. She mentioned that so far as many as 5,500 young men and women have earned on-the-job training since 2017 and more than 10,000 students will be training till 2021 as per industry’s demand under the initiative of TVET SSP in Sindh and Balochistan. She also highlighted the Pak-German cooperation in Pakistan since 2011 in the area of TVET sector through various initiatives like German Pakistan Training Initiatives (GPATI).
These initiatives have been supported by the TVET Sector Support Programme since, which is funded by the European Union and the governments of Germany and Norway. The TVET Sector Support Programme is implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in close collaboration with the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC) as well as provincial Technical Education and Vocational Training Authorities (TEVTAs) and private sector organizations.
