ISLAMABAD – The Ministry of Interior has decided to launch an amnesty scheme to encourage people to cancel their illegal passports.
The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid Ahmed and attended by Secretary Interior Yousaf Naseem Khokhar and DG Passport Dr Naeem Rauf.
Under the plan, the people who hold more than one Pakistani passport will be given 90 days to cancel their extra travel documents.

The official statement added that cases will be filed with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) against those who will not avail the amnesty scheme.
Existing law recommends minimum three year imprisonment for holder of illegal passports.
The interior minister said that the scheme will mostly benefit the overseas Pakistanis, who have passports on different names.
The amnesty scheme will be launched after getting approval from the federal cabinet.
