Punjab Minister for Population Welfare Hashim Dogar has said that increase in population is major hurdle in the way of development and progress of the country.
“Former governments paid no heed to population control due to which today we are facing poverty, unemployment and many other issues.”
Addressing a press conference in connection with three-year performance of the department here on Friday, he said that Buzdar government is the one that has taken Ulema onboard and initiated a program regarding seeking the services of imams and khateebs at tehsil level for population.
They are all being imparted trainings in the light of Quran and Hadith, so that they could deliver family planning message effectively, he informed.
Hashim Dogar stressed upon the need for following the concept of a healthy child a healthy family. “We have left behind the idea of two children.”
He also informed about the law regarding the age of children that marriage of a person, younger than 18 will not be allowed.
The provincial minister further stated that the Punjab government is also working on bill in connection with child labour and, the people who employee children even at their homes would be punished.
Secretary Population Welfare Ambreen Raza and Director General Population Welfare Malik Bhulla were also present on the occasion.
