8 die in 1,175 Punjab road accidents

The Punjab Emergency Service (Rescue1122) responded to 1079 Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs) in all 37 districts of Punjab during last 24 hours.

In these RTCs, 08 people died, whereas 1200 were injured. Out of this, 711 people were seriously injured who were shifted to different hospitals. Whereas, 489 minor injured victims were treated at the incident site by Rescue Medical Teams thus reducing the burden of Hospitals.

The majority (71%) Motorbikes were involved, therefore effective enforcement of traffic laws and lane discipline are essential to reduce this increasing number of Road Traffic Crashes.

Further, the analysis showed that 459 drivers, 42 underage drivers, 197 pedestrians, and 552 passengers were among the victims of these road traffic crashes. The statistics show that 321 RTCs were reported in Lahore which affected 288 persons placing the Provincial Capital at top of the list followed by 95 in Faisalabad with 107 victims, and at third 75 RTCS in Gujranwala with 77 victims.

The details further reveal that 1208 victims were affected by road traffic crashes including 951 males & 257 females, while the age group of the victims shows that 255 were under 18 years of age, 608 were between 18 and 40 years and rest of the 345 victims were reported above 40 years of age.

According to the data 972 motorbikes, 177 auto-rickshaws, 117 motorcars, 45 vans, 14 passenger buses, 28 trucks and 127 other types of auto vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in aforesaid road traffic accidents.
