522 new cases reported in past 24 hours Dengue continues taking toll on public in Punjab

The onslaught of Dengue virus continued across Punjab as 522 new cases of the mosquito-borne disease have been reported in the province during the past 24 hours.

The total number of dengue hemorrhagic fever cases has reached to 11,080 across Punjab so far in the current season, informed Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch.

Talking to the media persons here in Lahore on Tuesday, Imran Sikandar Baloch said that as many as 408 dengue fever cases were reported in Lahore on Monday.

He pointed out that so far, 32 persons have died of the Dengue disease in Punjab in the current season.

The health secretary said that most cases of the disease, 7,413, have been reported in Lahore, adding that presently, there are 2,183 dengue patients undergoing medical treatment in hospitals across the province.

He said that majority of patients of the mosquito-borne disease, 1,245, have been under medical attendance in hospitals in Lahore.

Health Secretary Imran Sikandar Baloch claimed that the administration has stepped up efforts to counter the upsurge in dengue fever in the province, adding that Dengue eradication activities have been continued at a brisk pace and Dengue larvae has been culled in hundreds of spots both in Lahore and other cities of the province.

He appealed to the masses to take precautionary measures to check breed and growth of the Dengue mosquito.

Public support is of great significance for effective eradication of Dengue, he stressed and added that all-out resources are being utilised to protect people against the disease.

Meanwhile, two persons were killed and four others injured in a fatal road accident here on Tuesday, the police said.

According to details, the accident took place near a CNG station on Narowal Road in Sheikhupura where an over speeding passenger bus ran over a motorcycle and then rammed into a mosque.

Two people including 30-year-old Javed and another unidentified person were killed on the spot in the accident while Azhar s/o Habib, Maqsood s/o Nazir, Waqas s/o Ishfaq and Zahid s/o Sarwar were critically injured.

The bodies and injured were shifted to hospital for medico-legal formalities and police after registering a case into the incident have started an investigation.
